About Me

My name is Steven Bloodsworth and I am currently enrolled in EDT 520 which is a class that is teaching and encouraging us to implement and explore technology in the classroom. I work as an alternative education teacher in Brewer. I am constantly trying to improve my teaching craft and technology is a natural and logical tool to help this happen. I'm looking forward to what the technological future holds and how I can use it in the classroom.

Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments

Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.

While I think I am pretty technologically fluent, I know that I am only scratching the surface of what I should be doing to enrich my students in the classroom.

Usually our technological endeavors in the classroom are limited to using the Internet to research a topic and then using either the Google word processor or presentation maker to present the information to me or their classmates. Unfortunately, the laptops our students are provided with do not have a great deal of software on them. I would love to routinely have students use Omnigraffle to create story webs and the like, but my machine is the only one that has the software. I don't think that is going to change anytime soon. However, I know there are probably online applications that I can use to enhance the student's learning experience.

I have enjoyed learning how to use Moodle and would like to pursue that as an avenue of use with my students. It would certainly be more interesting for them and I could do some cool stuff. All my articles and video would be in one place and easily accessible to all students.

My program director has talked about doing a "flipped" classroom model for a while now. Part of our issue has been the potential need for expensive software to record the presentation. Using what I've learned in EDT 520 I believe I can now use Quicktime to record presentations and create videos for a flipped classroom.
